Special Event: Book Signing with Betty Salpekar
Leader: Joan Ackerman

Thursday May 8 6-8pm

We are fortunate to have Betty Salpekar be in the Marion area who will be signing copies of her newest book, Solefull Socks Knitting from the Ground Up. Betty Salpekar, originally from Iowa, currently lives and knits in the metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia area. Her explorations of sock-knitting have made her a winner in two sock contests, both sponsored by XRX, Inc. She won with the miniature Christmas stockings, published in Socks, Socks, Socks in 1999, then later with the Leopard Spot socks, published in Think Outside the Sox in 2010. ! !

When the Leopard Spot socks were finished she had an inspiration for a new sock architecture After four years of developmental work she published a book about it in January 2014: Solefull Socks — Knitting from the Ground Up, with a foreword by Cat Bordhi. The eighteen designs in it are all knitted with that new architecture, which not only allows the full sole to be easily reinforced and cushioned, but makes stitch patterns merge and diverge in intriguing new ways.
