About Us

Welcome! |
| Village Needlework caters to those of us that
find we always have a needle of some kind in our hands - maybe
a tapestry needle as we work on our latest cross-stitch project,
or knitting needles to finish that special gift, or a beading
needle to add those final embellishments. Whether a beginner
or what our friends fondly call an “expert,” we love
handcrafted needlework, whatever form it takes. And, we’re
always looking to try a new technique. |

Where did the name come from? There’s
a fairly large Czech community in Cedar Rapids, with a small
business district called the Czech Village in the southwest side
of the city. As I was growing up, the Czech Village was a group
of small shops along two blocks . . . a favorite place to go
shopping with Babi (my grandmother) whether we were looking for
embroidery supplies, crochet thread, pillow ticking, gifts .
. . or bakery (!). It was an early version of “one stop” shopping.
Village Needlework is organized a lot like that . . . a village
of needlework cottages, each specializing in one aspect of needlework. |
OK, it’s a bit of a stretch! But, that’s truly
how the name came to be! Visit each of the “cottages” in
our village and browse to your heart’s content. There
are over 150 designers and vendors represented. Let me know
if you don’t find what you’re looking for and
we’ll see if we can find it for you. Yes, we actually
welcome “special” orders!

As for me, my background is in adult education and data
processing (D.P.? I.T.? I.S.? All those acronyms and more!)
So, a needlework shop is a big, but very welcome, change.
Now I’m doing what I enjoy all day, every day . . .
working with needlework and stitchers like yourself. Whoever
said “work at what you enjoy” really did know
what they were talking about. And Millie (my Yorkshire Terrier)
loves it that she gets to come with me every day.
|
| Our village is a work in progress. Products
change, the types of needlework we carry continues to expand
as we get YOUR comments and suggestions. The more you tell us,
the better job we’ll do for you. Watch us as we grow! |
